Goodbye 2020: how will you embrace 2021?
Over this past holiday season, a time when there is so much excess, it got me thinking. If we are influenced by and accustomed to so much superfluous excessiveness, what really matters in life? As time passes and another year comes to an end I realized that our lives really are over in the blink of an eye. If time is infinite and our galaxy is billions of years old, then the average life is lived and over in just a mere split-second; that is, if you get to experience the fullness of an entire lifetime.
I began to question if life can be over so quickly, does material abundance really matter? My self-reflection brought about philosophical and existential thoughts including “how will I be remembered?” And then I began thinking about all the possible ways people perceive me, and I realized that my impact on the world to date was relatively quite insignificant. I began to realize that after all the people who love me are gone, and after their children are gone I would be, quite likely, forgotten. The idea sparked a question within me to answer what kind of impact I want to make on this world, and I started diving deeper into determining how I want to be remembered.
What I discovered was something that I think can apply to everyone, and I wanted to share my discovery:
Your existence is so much more than to come here and buy things, procreate, leave, and be forgotten. What matters to you? How do you want to be remembered? Are you going to be a light in people’s darkness? The light I’m referring to is your truth and purpose. Light is sharing your gifts, talents and strengths. Before you even begin to think you don’t have any gifts, everyone does, everyone! The trick is to recognize and identify them. And from there to master those skills and best put them to use.
You can create hope for others and yourself and be set free from the self-limitations we impose. By following your passions you create a ripple and act as a leader, enabling others to be released from their prisons or self-imposed confinement. When you understand that you have the power to follow your purpose, you reflect that others have the power to release themselves from the prison of their mind, their root and cause of suffering and disparity.
We are so much more than this avatar flesh-bag we call identity. And in an infinite universe our identity means nothing when we are dead and gone. We are conditioned to believe things that are false from our infancy. We are programmed to believe that if we are impoverished or come from lack that we will never accomplish what we truly want, especially if it’s not in the design or grand scheme of the societal structure and plan.
When will you see clearly that you are surrounded by invisible chains of oppression, oppression of the mind and of classism, sexism, ageism, and racism? You must understand that you are in control and have the power to break free from these chains. Our existence on this planet means so much more than what the powers that be want us to believe! Begin by knowing that you have the freedom to choose. Stop listening to what you are told and start discerning how you want to create an impact on this world!
We are taught to be envious of each other, let us stop comparing ourselves to what we don’t have and start appreciating all we do. And understand that if we do not like something about ourselves or our life that we have the power to change it! And I know for most it’s not easy. But everyone, whether you believe they are handed wealth and privilege or not, no matter if you believe that some people inherit the world, everyone suffers and everyone has struggles. What are you going to do about your experience?
If you are too lazy, too tired, and too full of excuses to do nothing, then by all means go ahead and get plugged back into the matrix. Go back to sleep and be nothing more than a battery that gives away your power and action to those in control. Or you can choose to wake up and pursue what sets your soul on fire. Start with little steps. Make small changes. Do something you enjoy today! Make something of this life and make something of yourself. You have the choice to decide whether your life is filled with regrets or if you feel fulfilled from accomplishment. Whether you are 20 years old or 70, start with now. Time will go by regardless and you cannot change the past but you have control over the present. What choices will you make today?
Start doing something yourself tomorrow will thank you for. Start now! Just make a small step and repeat it again tomorrow; make another step and another. When you fall off the wagon, get back on. If you fall down, get back up. If you get crushed, rebuild yourself. No one is coming to rescue you! So rescue yourself. Stop with the goddamn excuses! If you want something bad enough, go and get it yourself! Only you have the power to create change for yourself. And it’s fucking hard and sometimes it will suck. But if you care about it enough, you’ll persevere through any setbacks. How do you want to look back at your life? Do you want to be on your deathbed saying “I wish I would have done that,” or “I am proud of all I have done!”
It enrages me to think about how people are being deceived! I am angered by the fact that you do not know the power you hold and realize that if you want the freedom to live life how you choose, that you have to take it for yourself! Why don’t you believe that you can? If you do then convince me that you believe your experience here is up to you and that you choose what legacy you want to create! You choose what you will bring to this tiny miniscule planet we think is the centre of everything! It’s not. We are nothing more than a tiny speck, but the beauty in that is you are relatively anonymous and that is freeing. The truth is that if you screw up, nobody will remember and nobody will care in a few short years. So be liberated in knowing that you can do and be anything you want as long as it matters to you! The only person you have to impress is yourself.
